As any pet owner can tell you, dogs and humans are more alike than people realize. Not only do dogs have personalities like people, but they also have similar biological systems. This is why the antihistamine you buy for your dog contains the same active ingredient as a similar product made for humans. This dynamic can also be seen with CBD, which is why Bee Active CBD makes CBD products for dogs. Here are four reasons why you should consider giving your dog CBD. ANXIETY AND STRESS One of the main benefits of CBD for people is also true for dogs. Though we can’t ask the dog to fill out a mental health survey, anecdotal evidence from dog owners suggests that CBD can help dogs with anxiety and stress. Just like with people, CBD seems to calm down dogs and make it easier for them to sleep. This anecdotal evidence is in line with the many studies which have shown that CBD can help humans with anxiety issues. At Bee Active CBD, we have calming CBD tincture for dogs. ARTHRITIS & JOINT PAIN As dogs get older, they are as susceptible to arthritis and joint pain as humans are. Like humans, joint pain and osteoarthritis are caused by inflammation. CBD has compounds that reduce chronic inflammation. This property also means that CBD can alleviate arthritis and joint pain. A 2018 study from Cornell suggests that CBD is helpful for dogs with arthritis pains. EPILEPTIC SEIZURES Dogs can suffer from epileptic seizures, and it's believed that about 5 percent of dogs have problems related to epileptic seizures. There is a growing body of research that suggests CBD could be used as an alternative treatment for dogs with epilepsy. A 2018 study from Colorado State University used a clinical trial to see if a CBD treatment for canine epilepsy was a viable option. Based on the preliminary report on the analysis, 89 percent of dogs who received CBD in the clinical trial had a reduction in the frequency of seizures. PAIN RELIEF Besides helping with pain caused by inflammation, there is evidence to suggest that CBD can be used to alleviate general aches and pains. Unlike some traditional pain medicine for dogs, CBD has no life-threatening side effects. As one vet explained in an article for PetMD, “It doesn’t damage the kidney, liver, or GI tract. The dogs aren’t high or sedated.”
